Disklok Troubleshooting Guide

If you’re having trouble with your Disklok, you’re in the right place. Below are solutions to the most common issues our customers encounter. If your problem isn’t listed, our support team is always happy to help.

Possible Causes:

  • Lock mechanism is dry or dirty

  • Key inserted upside down

  • Excess pressure applied while turning

Fix:

  • Ensure you’re using the correct key and that it’s inserted fully.

  • Do not force the key if there’s resistance.

  • Apply a small amount of graphite lock lubricant (not oil) into the keyhole.

  • Gently wiggle the key up/down while turning.

❗ Avoid WD-40 or oil-based lubricants — these can gum up the mechanism over time.

Possible Causes:

  • Lock is under pressure due to tight fit on the wheel

  • Internal components need lubrication

Fix:

  • Gently tap the outer case of the Disklok near the lock with your palm to release pressure.

  • Try turning the steering wheel slightly left or right before unlocking.

  • Apply graphite lubricant and try again.

Diskloks are fitted with a tension spring that holds the locking arms closed snugly over your wheel.

If Too Tight:

  • This can occur in colder temperatures or if the spring is stiff from lack of use.

  • Open and close the Disklok a few times off the wheel to “loosen” the spring.

  • A small application of silicone spray to the hinge area can help.

If Too Loose:

  • Ensure the Disklok is the correct size for your wheel (Small and Medium).

  • A too-loose spring may indicate wear and may need servicing or part replacement.

Fix:

  • Make sure the two halves are aligned evenly before closing.

  • Check that no debris or fabric (e.g. steering wheel cover) is caught between the Disklok and wheel.

  • Press both sides evenly until it clicks shut.

If your Disklok arrived incomplete or you’ve lost your key:

  • Contact our support team immediately.

  • Provide your key code (usually found on the spare tag included with your keys).

  • For security, we can only issue replacement keys for verified purchases.
